The Singapore Weiqi Association is a non-profit organisation。 From less than a hundred members when it was founded in 1981, to more than hundred thousand members today。 Since its inception, the association has enthusiastically promoted Weiqi to the masses through various types of classes。 Besides Kindergartens, more than 50 schools ranging from Primary Schools to Universities started Weiqi classes。 The association organises Weiqi classes, seminars and local competitions regularly every year。 Besides more than 10 local Weiqi competitions, the association also organises International Weiqi Competitions, such as Ing‘s Cup Professional Weiqi Competition, World Youth Weiqi Competition, China-Japan Super Weiqi Competition, Yan Huang Cup, China New Sport Cup and Japan Newspaper Cup etc。
The association not only promotes Weiqi in Singapore, but also helps other Southeast Asian Weiqi enthusiasts setup their Weiqi Associations to promote the games in their respective countries。 The first Southeast Asian Weiqi Competition was organised successfully five years ago。 We will continue to organise the first Southeast Asian Weiqi Congress in December this year, to bring Weiqi organizations all around the world closer and increase Southeast Asian Weiqi standard。
